About Round Rock, TX
Round Rock is named for a huge stone located in Brushy Creek just West of Interstate 35. The Chisholm Trail intersected Brushy Creek and the cowboys would seek the “round rock” because it marked a safe low-water crossing for the herd. Round Rock has a colorful western heritage. Notorious outlaw Sam Bass met his death while casing a bank to rob in Round Rock. Also, John Wesley Hardin, “the fastest gun in the West”, was raised here.
The town has changed significantly since the days of outlaws, cattle drives and Indian raids. Several corporations have headquarters or regional offices including Dell, EBay and Apple. With a population of over 100,000 Round Rock is now a virtual suburb of metropolitan Austin. Round Rock is a 30-minute drive straight up I-35 from Austin.
